Birder Friendly Criteria
Establishments are required to meet certain criteria in order to qualify for ‘Birder-Friendly' status:
- Catering to the specific needs of birders
- Being Responsible Tourism operators
- Supporting BirdLife South Africa' strategic objective of conserving wild birds and their habitats
The benefits
For an annual subscription of R900 (South African members) or R1,240 (non-South African members), BirdLife South Africa is committed to offering members of the Birder Friendly scheme the following benefits:
- Use of the ‘Birder-friendly' logo and branding
- A listing on the BirdLife South Africa Birding Routes website where clients will be able to contact your establishment directly for bookings
- Marketing at selected local and international trade shows and fairs
- Information and advice on how to make enterprises both bird and birder-friendly
- BirdLife South Africa membership
- Annual subscription to Africa Birds & Birding (6 issues per year)
- "Birder-friendly Establishments" will be included in self-drive itineraries that will be marketed through the website and newsletter
- Promoting establishments to bird tour operators
- A monthly newsletter
- Listing of special offers on the birding routes website and in the newsletter
- Information and advice on how to make enterprises both bird and birder-friendly
