	One the oldest conservation areas in southern Africa, Rooipoort Nature Reserve dates back to 1893. At more than 40 000 hectares in size, the reserve is also ranked among the largest private reserves in South Africa and was declared the fourth South African Natural Heritage Site in 1985.

	Originally bought by De Beers in 1891 for its diamond reserves, Benfontein is today dedicated to the conservation of fauna and flora. Just 10 km south-east of Kimberley in the Northern Cape Province, Benfontein covers 11 000 hectares of arid terrain favoured by more unusual species.

	To date about 140 bird species have been identified on Dronfield, complemented by herds of springbok, impala, duiker and steenbok. Dronfield is situated very close to Kamfer's dam, home to up to 50 000 Lesser Flamingoes.
