Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens

The Garden is one of South Africa's 8 Botanic Gardens, exclusively indigenous, almost 300 hectares in area and consists of both landscaped and natural veld areas. 240 bird species recorded with a world renowned resident pair of Verreaux's Eagles nesting on the cliffs of the Witpoortjie Waterfall. The eagles have bred almost every year with the normal Cain and Abel story in June 2008. Anytime, but summer time for visiting migrant birds. Directions

Take Johannesburg route - westerly direction, then Pretoria (N!) then Roodepoort.

Come off at 14th Avenue, and follow M47 (Hendrik Potgieter) to Krugersdorp. After approx 8 kms, turn left into Doreen Road, then right into Malcolm Road (suburb of Ruimsig). The botanical gardens are at the end of the road. Approximate travelling time from OR Tambo International is 1 to 1.5 hours.

Entry Fee

Entrance fees are R20 for adults, R10 for students and R6 for scholars. Children under 6 free. Free entrance for senior citizens on Tuesdays (R20 other days). Botanical Society members have free entrance to the Garden. A surcharge is levied for concerts and special events.
