Important Bird Areas


The following map shows the boundaries of the 122 Important Bird Areas in South Africa. To see more detail of an IBA click on the "+" sign or drag the ruler on the left or double right-click on the map. To see a satellite image of the IBA select Satellite or Hybrid.

In order to view additional information about each IBA click on the IBA (after the cursor has changed to a hand). A window will appear with information and links to the SABAP2 species list and the text of The Important Bird Areas of Southern Africa. Please note that the text and species listed in the text might be outdated and should be used with caution.

Please note that the boundaries and data might not be 100% accurate. Please report any errors to iba@birdlife.org.za.
