Mpumalanga is a summer rainfall area. It is hot to very hot in summer, especially in the Lowveld and mild in winter, but can become very cold in the Highveld.
Health
Malaria occurs in some parts of the Lowveld. Please consult your doctor on the appropriate malaria prophylactics to take and administer insect repellents before and after sunset.

Mpumalanga boasts some good roads, providing visitors with easy access to its natural and scenic attractions. However, be aware of where you stop for roadside birding and do not leave you car unattended.
The Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA) links the provincial capital Nelspruit directly to Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town.
A number of independent city-to-city shuttle services link Mpumalanga with the OR Tambo International Airport and Johannesburg. Similar services are also offered between Mpumalanga and major cities such as Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, and Polokwane in Limpopo, as well as Maputo in Mozambique, and Mbabane in Swaziland.
All major national and international car hire companies operate in Mpumalanga, with offices both in major city centers and at Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport.
