Tala Game Ranch comprises 3 200ha and is located in an area called Tala Valley. This valley is a section of the Mlazi River System. The ranch was purchased in 1988 by Mr Stuart Hilcove. It was initially a cattle ranch which has been turned into a game ranch

The ranch includes a variety of productive habitats, which include dams, a river, riparian thicket, thornveld, mixed woodland and grassland where a large number and variety of bird species occur.

Numerous mammal species have been introduced and these include: White Rhinoceros, Giraffe, Buffalo, Blue Wildebeest, Kudu, Eland, Nyala, Sable, Waterbuck, Reedbuck, Common Duiker & Warthog.

Specials to look out for are Wahlberg's Eagle, Lanner Falcon, Shelley's Francolin, Grey Crowned Crane, African Rail, Black-winged Lapwing, African Snipe, Acacia Pied Barbet, Red-throated Wryneck, Cape Rock-Thrush, Mocking Cliff-chat, Cape Grassbird, Cape Longclaw, Southern Tchagra, Olive Bush Shrike and Orange-breasted Waxbill.

Directions

From N3 take the Camperdown glide off, turn left and travel 3 Kms to T-junction. Turn left onto R603 towards Umbumbulu. Travel 12Kms and see Tala sign and entrance on the left.

Additional Info

The game reserve is accessible by day visitors and a nominal entrance fee is payable at the gate.

Guides are available for game drives and bush walks. There are picnic sites and a restaurant on site.

Habitat: a variety of habitats include dams and bushveld.
