Beachwood Mangroves
skznbs9.7

Categories: hide; trails; picnic; booking required

The area is controlled by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife and a hide and resource centre have been set up near the mangroves. Several short walks lead through the mangrove system with its delicately balanced ecology and a bridge connects this path to the sand dunes which is an equally fragile system, full of interesting plant and animal life. The valley behind the pioneer dune is one of the easiest places to find Square-tailed Nightjar, although it is difficult to see when roosting on the sand below a bush during the day.

Directions

Beachwood Mangroves is situated on the seaward side of the Leo Boyd Highway (M4). Take the first turnoff after crossing the bridge, and, after a short distance turn sharp left onto a gravel road and follow this into the parking area for Beachwood Mangroves.
