Terlings Farm is set on 150 hectares and offers birders a magnificent view into the canopy of some pristine indigenous mist belt forest. The farm is home to over 150 species of birds including the Cape Parrot, Knysna Turaco, Narina Trogon, Grey Cuckoo Shrike, Olive Bush – Shrike, African Grass Owl and Olive Woodpecker.

Located in the heart of the Midlands Meander, KwaZulu-Natal's most famous Arts and Crafts route, the farm is about 4 hours from Johannesburg and 1.5 hours from Durban.

Specials that can be sited here include Cape Parrot, Knysna Turaco, Narina Trogon, African Grass-Owl, Olive Woodpecker, Grey Cuckooshrike and Olive Bush-Shrike.

Directions

From Johannesburg

Take the Balgowan/ Curry's Post off-ramp. Go right at the top of the off-ramp and go over the highway. Follow the gravel road for 4km. At the T junction bear left. Keep a look out for the District road 533 on your left. Go left onto the D533. Terlings is the last farm on the D533.

From Durban

Additional Info

Terlings is accessible to day visitors by appointment and a nominal entrance fee is charged.

Trails lead around the fringes and through the indigenous forest.

There is safe parking for up to 10 cars and toilet facilities are available. There are restaurants nearby such as La Lampara, Woodridge Country Estate, Rawdons, Granny Mouse Country House and Caversham Mill.
